Splish Splash -NFS

 Painted Bunting taking a bath amongst the wild roses.  Painted Buntings have very vivid colors of blue, green, yellow & red.  They like to hide in dense thick weedy areas and are one of our finest songbirds.  This one was spotted in Florida.

Bog Copper male - NFS

A North American butterfly which spends his lifetime in a single acid cranberry bog.  They are 7/8" to 1" and are hard to catch because of their habitat.  But if you sit quietly for a while, they might light on your shoulder.

American Painted Lady - NFS

Did you know butterflies are solar powered? Or that they can see more colors than humans? The American Painted Lady migrates independent of seasonal changes and can travel 100 miles a day at almost 30MPH. The American Painted Lady might be the most cold tolerant of all painted ladies and their close relative, the Red Admiral. It is believed that they overwinter in northern US.

When the Red Admiral is viewed from above, he appears quite different in color. When his wings are spread, he is black and a very striking luminous bluish green.
His territory is quite widespread from southern New England to Florida and as far west at the Dakotas.
